Rod W. Jeppsen

President
CMHC, CSAT

I love people. I enjoy helping others to become their best selves. Changing human behavior is not easy. I know from my own experience trying to stop unwanted behaviors takes work, patience, and help from others. I want clients to feel connected and that I understand their issues and “get it.” Creating emotional safety so clients can open up, share feelings that they may not have shared before, is part of the process. This way we can work as a team on the real underlying issues that drive the behavior. I enjoy marriage therapy. Working to form an alliance with each partner and flowing with the emotions in the session is not an easy dance.

Brady Cook

Chief Marketing Officer

I’m fortunate to be at Suncrest Counseling, surrounded by this team of experts and specialists in mental health. With my experience in marketing and advertising, I work on strategies to combat the stigma surrounding mental illness and build awareness around access to education and treatment services. Stereotypes contribute significantly to a lack of understanding and fear of getting help — affecting many who struggle and their loved ones who support them. I’m excited to be a part of the Suncrest team, helping reduce mental health stigma by providing more tools, anecdotes, and educational content for individuals, families, and workplaces.

Stacey Clark

MSW, CSW

I am a Utah native with an interest in building strong communities. I developed a passion for the mental health and well-being of children, individuals, and families by supporting K-12 students as a school social worker. In addition, I have many years of experience working with individuals and couples struggling with grief and loss through the SHARE Parents of Utah program. I have worked with victims of domestic violence and collaborated with the Herriman City Police Department in facilitating the organization of their Peer Court. Through these experiences, I found that healing begins by building trust through a therapeutic alliance. This is where I strive to provide a warm, safe, encouraging space, utilizing my education, creativity, and experience to draw upon modalities tailored to meet specific needs. Through this effort, I believe that clients will be empowered to live their best lives by taking them from a state of surviving to a level of thriving. My favorite quote by Brene’ Brown is: “Loving ourselves through the process of owning our story is the bravest thing we will ever do.” It is an honor and privilege in allowing me to help you own your story. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, traveling, running, hiking, biking, and paddle boarding.

ACMHC

Life sometimes throws us curveballs we never saw coming. All too often we are left feeling confused, overwhelmed, and on edge. We might even find ourselves with intense feelings of pain and sadness. Gabor Mate stated, “The attempt to escape from pain, is what creates more pain.” It’s perfectly normal to want to escape and run from pain. The only problem is that when we suppress or run from our feelings they will get expressed in other ways or forms. Examples of this include addictions or problems in relationships with loved ones. I believe that as we work through our pain we are better able to show up for life in a more genuine and authentic way. I work with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, PTSD, and addictions. I also enjoy couples therapy. My goal as a therapist is to help others begin their healing journey and move towards their future with strength and courage.

Shelli Densley

LMFT, CFLE

I believe that as human beings we long for, crave, and need for our survival connection with one another. Some of our most cherished connective relationships are within families particularly between spouses, parents, and children. These relationships can be filled with joy. They can also be filled with pain and heartache. In the course of navigating life, sometimes we need help with these relationships. I believe there is hope in re-establishing the love, trust and hope that has vanished. I also believe that we have the power and capacity to change.

In the therapeutic relationship, we work together to create an atmosphere of safety where emotions can be explored, communication skills can be acquired, and love and trust can be restored individually and within relationships. I consider it an honor to be part of this journey.

You may be reading this because you are struggling, perhaps you have tried everything you can think of to feel better, to solve your problems, or to make things right and nothing seems to turn out in the way you expect. Too often in life people are subjected to trauma, often at a young age. This combined with the basic fact that life is hard can be overwhelming. Knowing where to begin the healing can be the hardest step. I aim to help others work through the rough parts of life so they can live their life to the fullest and experience true joy. As we talk in a compassionate and nonjudgmental environment, I learn about the strengths every individual has and see them as a person worthy and deserving of healing. To make everyone comfortable, I encourage the use of communication in various forms. This can take place through play, art, music, or the standard forms of talking and writing. I love being a witness to the innate power in every individual when they are provided an environment with unconditional love where they can truly grow with the support and guidance of another.

Ryan Nielsen

CMHC

I work with a wide variety of mental health and relationship issues. I counsel with clients struggling with addictions of all kinds and have extensive experience working with men struggling with pornography and other sexual addictions. I tend to see things from an attachment and emotional focus and feel that problems in attachment relationships (key, love relationships) are at the core of addictions as well as many other mental health problems. I believe that our need for love and attachment is absolute and cradle to grave. Further, I see that mental health problems, relationship issues and addictions arise when we deny our real feelings and as our core emotional needs go unrecognized and unmet. I also feel that family history and dynamics shape individuals and must be considered.

Throughout history, we as humans have developed thousands of ways to communicate with verbal and non-verbal communication. We have developed several wonderful languages. We have created countless number of paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, poems, books, movies, plays, dances, and music—all for one reason—to be understood.  As humans, we have an innate desire to be understood.  Personally, there is nothing more rewarding as a therapist than to be there for another person who desires to be understood.  As a therapist, I take a non-judgmental, and compassionate approach, by striving to show unconditional positive regard to each individual I see. I encourage each person I see to feel free to communicate, not just through verbal means, but also through art, music, writing, play, and more.

Cortney Prestwich

MSW, CSW

I believe that as we go throughout life, we are equipped with tools to handle the challenges we face. However, along the way those tools may get lost or rusty, they bend and break, and we need help to clean up our tools or find new ones. I strive to create a safe, judgement free space where together we work to process those challenges and discover the tools necessary to heal and move forward. I use a person-centered approach and focus on you as the client and your strengths and abilities for growth and change. I incorporate mindfulness and grounding techniques which can provide relief from anxiety, stress, trauma, and depression.

When working with children and adolescents, together we use art, stories, games, and toys to communicate thoughts and emotions, and process their own experiences. I provide education and skills to these clients and their families that can be incorporated in their lives and their homes. I engage frequently with the parents/guardians and encourage participation in their child’s treatment because I believe in order to see true progress in a child or teen, there should be familial support as well.

Brad Rentfro

CMHC

Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted to help people overcome the issues that have become prevalent in today’s individuals and families. In 2000 I began working with adolescents and their families in residential treatment. I saw so much pain, caused by unresolved issues, misunderstanding, and trauma. I began running a trauma group shortly after, and I realized that I had found my calling in life. I love seeing people recapture the joy in their lives and relationships. My approach involves looking deeper than just the symptoms most seek treatment for to what is behind them and driving those issues. Understanding and addressing the core issue is like digging out the roots of a weed instead of just clipping off the leaves above the surface. It’s the only way to keep the symptoms from growing back.

“I was born in a cross-fire hurricane” is a line from the song Jumpin Jack Flash by “The Rolling Stones,” but it is also what life can feel like when we are distressed, anxious, depressed, or unsettled. Working as a teacher, I observed first-hand the increasing sadness, anxiety, overwhelm and disconnection that students, parents, and teachers were experiencing. This can happen for a variety of reasons. Seeing the need for more support was my motivation for becoming a therapist. I believe you deserve to be your best self and sometimes you might need a little help and mentoring to get there. I am by nature solution-focused, but I also believe people inherently have their own answers, and I want to provide a non-judgmental, safe space for you to find them. Change can come in many ways including through education, behavior, mindfulness, play therapy, art therapy, movement, and stories. I would be honored to share that journey with you in any way you wish.

I believe in the power of change. I believe that each day we wake up and get to decide to do something different, but sometimes, we need help with that. I view my mission as a therapist to help people grow. We have all had difficult times in our lives and it is incredibly brave to seek help to make a course correction, or to find a totally new path. Robert Tew said “Be patient with yourself. You are growing stronger every day. The weight of the world will become lighter…and you will begin to shine brighter. Don’t give up.”

A few of the techniques I incorporate into my sessions include narrative therapy, relational theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy, and mindfulness.

There are times when we find ourselves metaphorically stuck on the side of the road.  We experience the sense that something needs to change.  It can be very discouraging and lonely to find ourselves without the fuel or energy to get back on a path pointing in a direction that matters to us.  At times like this, we might find ourselves needing some support.  Perhaps we are battling a relentless loop of familiar thoughts that we can not seem to shift.  Maybe we are struggling to hold onto our independence while also forming or sustaining lasting connection to people we care about.  Possibly there are parts of our story that test our view of ourselves.  We may be relating to ourselves conditionally, believing we don’t have the heart, the brains, or the courage to keep going.

I believe human beings inherently have everything they need to make it through their journey.  I find it a privilege to witness individuals relating to their story differently, and finding what is golden about it.  As individuals give themselves permission to heal parts of their story with self compassion, they find that what was initially limiting is now empowering and emboldening. I believe in helping individuals relate differently to their thoughts and fully arrive at experiencing their emotions, rather than falling back on defensive behaviors.  These behaviors may help individuals survive moments, but I value helping individuals to fully live moments.  Additionally, I believe it is critical to recognize and understand nervous system activation and how it impacts our stories.  I prioritize finding effective ways to soothe our bodies to a physiological state that allows for greater connection to the present moment, ourselves and others.  I see it as a great privilege to support individuals as they find a sense of feeling “at home” in themselves, so as to access the greatest possible quality of life.

Throughout the therapeutic process, I actively collaborate with clients, working together to identify and explore their strengths, goals, and aspirations. I believe in emboldening individuals to become active participants in their own healing journey, helping them build resilience and develop the necessary skills to overcome obstacles. By embracing the client’s unique experiences and strengths, I work collaboratively with them to overcome challenges, explore new perspectives, and cultivate a greater sense of self-awareness. Together, we navigate life’s complexities and uncover the tools needed to lead a more fulfilling and balanced life.

Paisley Cummings

Neurofeedback Technician

I absolutely love being a Neurofeedback Technician here at Suncrest. As my client, giving you the best care each and every time, is my priority. I want you to walk away from each brain training or mapping session with me, feeling comfortable and heard. I truly want the best for everyone I am able to work with, and I believe Neurofeedback to be a great tool to help you on your road to brighter days.

Administrative Assistant, South Jordan Office

Working for Suncrest has been a dream. I love working with people and helping people overcome the difficulties of life. I feel so privileged to be working among a wonderful team of experts who want to help so many people. I am glad that I get to be part of that journey in helping people find the right therapist and treatment for them. I have a love for counseling and therapy as I am finishing my bachelors degree in social work. I love being able to be part of different journeys for people to find help and happiness.

Healing starts with a smile. Here at Suncrest it’s my job to welcome clients at the start or continuation of their mental health journeys. It brings a smile to my face to see the changes that can happen with each visit and I hope it will bring a smile to yours as well.
