Seminar Summary

This live 1-day workshop is for all interested in developing a concrete, easy-to-understand treatment approach for individuals with BPD in a short-term solution-focused setting. Learn how to conceptualize personality disorders in general, the four core issues of BPD, how to talk to clients about BPD, and associated traits in a concrete and easy-to-understand way.

Further emphasis will be placed on assessment, the interposal dynamics frequently encountered in treating individuals suffering from BPD. One segment (1 hour of the workshop) will focus on specific ethical and professional issues relative to treating individuals with BPD. Another focus will be on the assessment of suicidality and para-suicidality of individuals with BPD and specific interventions on how to address these. The interventions presented can easily be incorporated into your therapeutic style and repertoire.

About The Presenters:

Dr. Juergen Korbanka serves as the Executive Director of Wasatch Behavioral Health, a community mental health center in Provo, Utah since 2007. His research interests include evidence-based and outcome-oriented time-limited treatment programs, program effectiveness, and treatment efficiency. He has presented numerous times at local, statewide, and national conferences, including the MHCA conference (2017 & 2020) American Counseling Association Conference (2002 & 2003), the Utah State Mental Health Conference, the National Conference for Behavioral Health (2009) and the Utah Domestic Violence Conference. He has authored work appearing in Psychological Reports (1997 & 2003) and the Journal for Interpersonal Violence (2000) and co-authored work appearing in Sleep (2021). Together with Andrew Barber, Ph.D., he wrote the introductory statistics text “Research and Statistics for the Social Sciences” (2004). A workbook geared toward the treatment of individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder and Substance abuse issues appeared in Spring 2004 (authored with Randy Huntington, LCSW). In his clinical practice, Dr. Korbanka worked extensively with perpetrators of domestic violence and individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder.

In addition to administrative and clinical responsibilities, Dr. Korbanka taught for the College of Social Sciences at the Utah Campus of the University of Phoenix and Argosy University in Salt Lake City from 1998 – 2019. From 2007 – 2010, and again since December 2020, he served as the Chair of the Utah Behavioral Healthcare Committee. Dr. Korbanka has been recognized with an Who is Who in America listing, an Outstanding Practitioner Award (Chi Sigma Iota – 2003), a Lifetime Achievement Award (UMHCA-2008), a Distinguished Teaching Award (University of Phoenix – 2002), an Employee of the Year Award (Wasatch Mental Health – 2000), an Excellence of Teaching Award (University of Phoenix, Utah – 1999), and an Outstanding Service Award (Utah County Domestic Violence Coalition – 1998). Most recently, in 2020, Dr. Korbanka was honored with the Utah County Person of the Year award.

Randy Huntington is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Division Director at Wasatch Mental Behavioral Health, Designated Examiner, and Psychotherapist, In addition, he has his own Private Practice. Over the past 27 years, he treated patients both at Residential and Outpatient settings. His specialty areas are focused on people who suffer from anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Marital therapy, Borderline & Narcissistic Personality Disorder, suicide prevention, addiction, bereavement & loss, crisis intervention, assistance and support with law enforcement, and Critical Incident Stress debriefings. He is a former adjunct faculty at Utah Valley University Police Academy. He has presented multiple times locally and nationally on the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. Over the past 22 years, he has been trained as an instructor in a self-assessment personality measure to optimize relationships and communications called Persogenics.

Refund and Cancellation Policy

We understand, life happens!

Cancellations must be made in writing and emailed to events@suncrestcounseling.com and will be honored as follows:
Suncrest is happy to offer refunds to registrants of both live and live-online trainings who cancel their registration up to 10 days in advance of the course or workshop start date, minus an administrative processing fee of $75. If canceled within 10 days before the event, no refund will be issued. In some cases, a credit for the same amount can be applied toward another future learning event, which expires within 1 year.

In the rare event that we need to cancel a webinar due to circumstances beyond our control, we will make every effort to notify attendees with as much advance notice as possible. Attendees will be given the opportunity to either transfer to another webinar or obtain a full refund.

We don’t provide refunds due to:

Attendee technology problems:  It is the responsibility of the webinar attendee to test their computer setup prior to the start of the webinar. If a technical failure at your home or workplace prevents access to the live webinar, you are not eligible for a refund. If the technical problem is due to our error, we will consider issuing a refund. Access to the recording of the event will be available for up to 60 days, though live attendance is required for and CE credits.

Attendee email issues:  Refunds will not be issued in cases where an attendee did not receive the webinar login instruction email due to issues like restricted emails, bounced emails, or any other system issues. It is the attendee’s responsibility to contact us if they don’t receive the required login information at least 24 hours prior to the start time of the webinar
