This is a very uplifting and inspiring class for couples who want to find closer connections in all aspects of their relationship including an emotional and sexual connection. This is an eight-session class. The class dates are, Thursday February 21, 28, March 7, 14, 21, 28, April, 4, 11. 5:00pm-6:30pm
This class is based on the Hold Me Tight book authored by Dr. Sue Johnson the developer of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). “EFT is the only model of couple intervention that uses a systematic empirically validated theory of adult bonding as the basis for understanding and alleviating relationship problems” ( Johnson, 2012). What this means is that couples are able to learn how to create a secure, resilient attachment which leads to successful relationships. In this class, couples are guided through seven conversations where they learn new ways to connect with their partner that can lead to a lifetime of love.
Not unlike the attachment that can form between a child and their parents who obtains nurturing, soothing and protection, couples learn that they are emotionally attached and dependent on their partner. Dr. Sue Johnson explains that to enhance or save a relationship partners must learn to be open, attuned and responsive to each other and to reestablish emotional connections.
During the class couple’s will receive instruction about the seven conversations, ask questions, watch video and process as a group the new concepts. Each couple will then have an opportunity to process together the new concepts and practice new skills. Therapists are available and present in the room to assist couples and help them process the new material. Homework assignments are given each week to help consolidate learning. Couples are encouraged to purchase the Hold Me Tight book and complete reading assignments as the class progresses.
