This program is designed to give adolescents a safe, supportive and accepting atmosphere where they can explore their emotional, intellectual and social needs.
The best fit is for clients who are struggling with depression, anxiety, self-harm, identity issues or strained family relationships. Most of these adolescents have shut down; often avoid social situations and school. They do not have many healthy coping strategies and have learned unhealthy strategies from a variety of situations like poor choices in friends, a parent with mental illness, parents who struggle themselves managing stress or relationships and or are absent emotionally due to serious marital distress or other challenges.
This program is meant to provide the adolescent with emotional support where they can separate from the distress in their environment and focus on themselves and what they need to do to get their goals or needs met.
Credit Recovery Support
Getting caught up on academics and having a fresh start to the school year, can be both invigorating and empowering for your client. They often avoid and procrastinate thinking about their future because it feels so overwhelming and as time goes on the anxiety about being behind only grows. Often the parents develop a negative pattern with the adolescent where they nag, threaten or attempt to control the situation which often leads the adolescents to withdraw and avoid further.
During the eight weeks, the adolescent will be able to have a structured, quiet environment to work on packets for 90 minutes a day. This would allow the adolescent to make up about 2.5 credits in eight weeks. A therapist will supervise the adolescents and help each adolescent assess challenges to getting started, assess any difficulty in understanding material or help them process managing anxiety around school work and their future.
